Larry Miller was born in Baraboo, Wisconsin and has lived in a number of cities as a union and community activist. Over the years he has been a member of 8 different union locals, including AFSCME, Machinists, Steelworkers, Teamsters, Transportation Workers Union and the Milwaukee Teachers Education Association. After being laid off in his late 30s, Larry got a college degree and then taught high school for Milwaukee Public Schools for 17 years. He loved learning from his students and delighted to see many of them fight for social justice. He also became an editor at Rethinking Schools.
Larry won a seat on the school board for MPS and served for 12 years advancing antiracist and Black Lives Matter curriculum, bilingual education, and restorative practices. Both his children are proud MPS graduates. For ten years he taught a course for education majors at Marquette University.
Larry is an avid cyclist, enjoys all water-related activities and spending time with his dog Blu. Like his wife of 45 years, he loves bid whist and board games and especially being with family and friends.
